Talakaveri, located at a height of 1,276 meters above sea level in the Brahmagiri hills of Kodagu district (Coorg), Karnataka, India, is a place of immense religious significance for Hindus. It is believed to be the source of the holy river Kaveri, one of the seven sacred rivers of Hinduism.
Talakaveri translates to "head of the forest" and while there is no permanent visible flow of the Kaveri River from this place, except during the monsoon rains, there is a small spring called the "Tirtha Kundike" or "Brahma Kundike" which is considered the source. On Kaveri Sankramana day, which typically falls in mid-October, thousands of pilgrims visit to witness the "rise" of the fountainhead, when water is said to miraculously gush up from the spring.
Temple: A small temple dedicated to Lord Shiva overlooks the sacred spring. The temple has been recently renovated and offers a serene atmosphere for prayer and meditation.

Talakaveri is located about 48 km from Madikeri, the headquarters of Kodagu district. You can reach Talakaveri by road from Madikeri or Bhagamandala.
