The Sardar Patel Museum is a multi-purpose museum located in Surat, Gujarat, India. Established in 1890, it's one of the popular tourist attractions in the city.
History
The museum was originally known as the Winchester Museum after its founder, the then collector of Surat, Mr. Winchester. In 1957, it was renamed after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the "Iron Man of India" in recognition of his contributions to India's independence and unification. The museum suffered damages due to floods in the past and was relocated to its current location at the Science Centre in 2009.
