The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is a contemporary art museum in San Diego, California.It is focused on the collection, preservation, exhibition, and interpretation of works of art from 1950 to the present.
MCASD has two locations:
- MCASD La Jolla is located on a 3-acre oceanfront campus in the heart of La Jolla.It features recently expanded collection galleries, a rotation of special exhibitions, The Shop, and The Kitchen at MCASD, a full-service café and restaurant.The La Jolla location also offers dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean from the galleries and terraces. - MCASD Downtown is located in two renovated buildings in the heart of downtown San Diego. The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Building features large-scale installations and sculptures, while the David C. Copley Building is outfitted with two specially commissioned permanent installations which feature Light and Space art. MCASD Downtown
MCASD's collection includes key pieces by color field painter Ellsworth Kelly, minimalist sculptor Donald Judd, and renowned California installation artist Robert Irwin.The museum also has a strong focus on artists from both sides of the US/Mexico border, celebrating both San Diego and Tijuana's artistic communities.
MCASD is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM. The museum is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Admission is free for people 17 and under, military and their families with ID, and SNAP/EBT card holders. MCASD is also free on the Second Sunday and the Third Thursday of every month.
