Don't confuse this Haveli with the one associated with the famed Raja Todar Mal, Akbar's finance minister. This Haveli belonged to Diwan Todar Mal, a Mughal official serving under the Governor of Sirhind in the 17th century.
A Legacy of Humanity
The haveli's story intertwines with the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh's sons. Moved by their tragic fate, Diwan Todar Mal is said to have purchased the land for their cremation with a unique stipulation - he could claim as much land as he could cover with gold coins. The resulting haveli stood as a testament to his compassion.
