Hamirsar Lake is a man-made lake that sits in the heart of Bhuj, the headquarters of the Kutch district (Kachchh) in the Indian state of Gujarat . Named after the founder of Bhuj, Rao Hamir (1472-1524), the lake was built during the reign of Rao Khengarji I (1548-1585) .
The lake, spread over an area of 28 acres, was envisioned as an oasis of peace and tranquility amidst the hot, saline desert of the Rann of Kutch . A beautiful garden, called Rajendra Park, sits at the center of the lake. Tourists can enjoy boating in the lake or take a leisurely walk along its banks.
The embankments of the lake were further improved upon during the reigns of Pragmalji II and Khengarji III. In ancient times, the primary purpose of the lake was to serve the domestic needs of Bhuj.
Today, Hamirsar Lake is a popular tourist destination and a favorite picnic spot for the people of Bhuj. Here are some of the activities you can enjoy at the lake:

The best time to visit Hamirsar Lake is during the monsoon season (July to September) when the lake is full of water. However, the lake can be visited throughout the year.
