Trekking Adventure

Limited Access: Due to conservation efforts and wildlife activity, trekkers are usually only allowed up to the heart-shaped lake, which is about 3-3.5 km from the watchtower (the official starting point), and not to the very summit.
Permit and Guide: Prior permission from the Forest Department is mandatory, and a local guide will accompany each group of trekkers. Note: Only a limited number of visitors are allowed per day.
Start Point: The base camp is near the town of Meppadi, about 8 km from Kalpetta. The actual trek often starts from a watchtower/parking area, which is a short distance from the ticket counter.
Travel Information
Best Time to Visit: The ideal time for trekking is from September to March, especially after the monsoon, when the climate is cool, the air is fresh, and the landscape is lush green. Monsoons (June to August) are generally avoided due to slippery trails.
Timings: Trekking usually begins around 7:00 AM, and entry is generally closed by 2:00 PM to ensure all trekkers return before sunset.
Accessibility: The nearest major transport hubs are the Kozhikode Railway Station and Calicut International Airport (both around 90-100 km away). From there, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to Kalpetta or Meppadi.
