There are actually two Buddha stupas in Vaishali, Bihar, India, both believed to enshrine a portion of the cremated ashes of Gautama Buddha. These aren't grand, towering structures, but rather ancient and partially dilapidated mounds. However, their historical significance makes them important pilgrimage sites for Buddhists.
The stupas are located near the Abhishek Pushkarn (coronation pond) where Licchavi kings were coronated. The area is serene with a peaceful atmosphere.
These aren't the only Buddhist sites in Vaishali. An Ashoka pillar, erected by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka the Great in the 3rd century BCE, marks the site where the Buddha is said to have delivered his last sermon.
