Durg Dhakoba Trek: A Trek for All Seasons
The Durg Dhakoba Trek is a moderate-difficulty trek located in the Sahyadris of Maharashtra, India. The trek is named after the two peaks, Durg and Dhakoba, which are located at the end of the trek. The trek offers stunning views of the Western Ghats, as well as a glimpse into the region's rich history.
The Trek
The trek starts in the village of Palu, which is located in the Amboli taluka of the Sindhudurg district. The trail initially ascends through a dense forest, with occasional views of the surrounding hills. After about 2 hours of hiking, the trail reaches a plateau, where there are two temples dedicated to Durga and Dhakoba. From the plateau, the trail continues to ascend to the summits of Durg and Dhakoba.
Durg
Durg is a small fort located at an altitude of 3,900 feet. The fort is in ruins, but there are still some walls and structures that can be seen. The fort offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and hills.
Dhakoba
Dhakoba is a mountain peak located at an altitude of 4,100 feet. The peak offers even more stunning views than Durg. From the peak, you can see the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, the Sahyadri mountain range, and the Arabian Sea.
When to Visit
The best time to visit Durg Dhakoba is during the monsoon (June-September). The monsoon rains bring lush greenery to the mountains, and the waterfalls are in full flow. The weather is also cooler during the monsoon, making it more comfortable to hike.
Tips
- Wear comfortable shoes with good grip. The trail can be slippery in some places.
- Carry sufficient water and snacks. There are no shops or restaurants along the trail.
- Be prepared for the weather. The weather can change quickly in the mountains.
